Acciona is a leading European construction and energy company developing and managing buildings and civil infrastructures under the sustainability principles. It has an international presence in more than 30 countries and its total turnover in 2006 was 3.6 billion €, employing 14.000 people. It is part of Acciona Group, whose business lines are Construction, Real State, Urban-Environmental Services, Energy, Logistic and Transport. The development and construction of energy efficient buildings is within the core strategy of Acciona Infraestructuras. Its activities can cover from their design and construction to their operation, maintenance, refurbishment, deconstruction and recycling. In the last five years it has built more than 480 non-residential buildings (offices, schools, hospitals, industrial, airports) and 18.000 dwellings, of which 5.000 have been built under the energy efficient and affordability basis; and it has refurbished 70. The Acciona/s R&D Technological Centre of Madrid is composed by 120 high qualified researchers, fully dedicated to R&D activities. The team is formed by civil, energy, industrial, chemists, environmental, telecommunication and electronic engineer as well as architects, physicists, biologists, chemists complemented with economists, sociologists and lawyers. It owns laboratories of nanotechnology and advanced materials, RES integration in buildings, ICT, chemistry analysis, and workshops for prototyping infrastructure components. Acciona Infraestructuras is an active member of some European and Spanish TPs and initiatives as the European Construction TP (ECTP), being part of its High Level and Support Group, leading the Focus Area Cities and Buildings (in which resource efficient and clean building is a must) and several WGs in other Focus Areas such as Materials, ICT & Processes and CH (co-leading the WG on Energy & Environment). Moreover, Acciona is Co-leader of the initiative towards the creation of the Joint Technology Initiative on Energy Efficient Buildings (JTI E2B), coming from the ECTP. Acciona Infraestructuras has participated in 5 projects from FP5, leading one of them, and 11 within the FP6, leading another one. It also participates and leads a large number of Eureka and National projects. Relevant projects related to H2SUBUILD are for instance Sphera (National - H2 storage tanks for higher energetic density, using composite materials), Genesys (National - Distributed generation with fuel cells technology. Co-generation system for construction), Remap (FP6 - Action Plan for high-priority RES initiatives in Mediterranean area) and CEE (Eco-efficient cities-National project on energy efficiency in the urban environment).
